Get your skin ready for summer
Summer is the time to make the most of your skin. And your local Careway pharmacist is the best person to help you do just that. A visit to your pharmacy can give you the information and the products you need to keep your skin glowing all summer long.
Here are some of the things your pharmacist may tell you about:
Moisturise daily If you’ve been using a rich moisturiser during the winter, it may now be time to switch to a lighter product, as many of us find our skin is less dry during the summer than in winter. Ask your pharmacist to recommend a light moisturising lotion that has a cooling effect on your skin, as it could come in handy when the temperature rises.
However if your skin is dry, even during the summer, you may need to use a creamier product and apply it throughout the day. Your pharmacist can help you choose the product that would suit your skin the best.
Stay hydrated Next to moisturising, drinking plenty of water is the most important thing you can do to improve your skin’s hydration. Aim to drink at least eight glasses of water a day. Water is the best thing to drink for your skin, but you can also have other drinks such as milk, diluted fruit juice and even tea and coffee. If it gets hot, drink more fluid to keep your hydration level up.
Cut down on alcohol Alcohol is thought to have a drying effect on the skin, so don’t drink too much, especially if you’re tempted to have an extra glass or two when the weather’s fine.
Eat healthily Whether you have perfect skin or are affected by a skin condition such as acne, eczema or psoriasis, eating foods rich in antioxidant vitamins and minerals can help keep your skin healthy. Try to make sure you have at least five portions of fruit and vegetables each day, as fruit and veg contain the antioxidant vitamins A, C and E. Don’t forget to have some protein at each meal too, as protein is also a must for healthy skin.
Use sun protection Wearing sunscreen during the spring and summer months is essential if you want to keep your skin looking good. Apply plenty of sunscreen and reapply every couple of hours if you’re out and about in the sun. Find out more by reading our 10 top sun protection tips and our Guide to UV and IR-A sun protection.
Your local Careway pharmacist can also recommend skincare products to use as part of a daily routine of cleansing, toning and moisturising. And if you have skin problems such as a dry skin condition or the occasional blemish, your pharmacist can tell you which products will help you manage them.
